Qatar is hosting the FIFA World Cup this year in 2022 one of the major things that is happening is that Qatar is banning the LGBTQ armbands that soccer players are wearing. Homosexuality is a crime and you would be sentence to prison in Qatar; the article states “men caught in sexual acts with one another can face several years of imprisonment or even the death penalty.” FIFA is saying that they won't allow the disallowment of the LGBTQ and is going to wear the armbands further on in this tournament.
The fact that its 2022 and countries are still homophobic is just deranged; also the fact there holing a World Cup where a lot of countries are represented who might have LGBTQ people on there teams and I dont think they would feel safe. Personally if a country was to hold a world cup they should do it in a LGBTQ friendly country for those who don't have to fear life or death. Although the president of the FIFA stated that “he's been talking to the country’s high leadership and he can confirm that everyone is welcomed '' I guess people won't have to fear while they are visiting Qatar for the time being. I hope they can change in the future and let people love who they want.
